Who we are
There are 3 Harrison House locations in Richmond and Chesterfield accepting adult male and female clients. We can accept both low-level and high-level functioning client. Lower functioning client may need assistance with managing activities of daily living. Higher functioning clients exhibit more independence. Many of the social activities are similar among all clients, although higher functioning clients are encouraged to participate in opportunities that will improve their decision-making skills and autonomy.

Harrison House Adult Services is a group home program carefully designed to support the overall needs of adults with a primary diagnosis of intellectual disability. Participants reside in an environment that is clean, comfortable, and secure. Qualified, compassionate individuals who acknowledge the unique needs of our consumers, and who support their ability to thrive and advance staff the program around the clock. Client-centered, the program is planned around the needs, preferences and abilities of its participants. Consumers, their family members, health care professionals, case managers, staff and other authorized representatives collaborate to develop service plans tailored to fit individual clients’ needs.
Individuals considered for
admission at the Harrison House
will be assessed and reviewed
carefully on a case-by-case basis to
ensure that they meet the following
criteria:
• Adult male and female
• May have mild to moderate mental retardation
• Must be eligible for Medicaid Waiver through a community services board and/or have private funding
• Must demonstrate the potential to benefit from the range of services offered by the Harrison House program
• Must have mental health and physical health stouts that can be accommodated by Harrison House personnel, resource agencies, or local providers in the community
• Must present a current physical examination, including a Tuberculosis exam with documentation from their physician substantiating that they are free of any communicable diseases which would potentially present harm to the home environment
• Must present all admission paperwork including their application and any other paperwork providing insight to their care from any previous placements and or service providers
• Must have auditory function with no requirements for the use of sign language
• Harrison House accepts the visually impaired
